The event will take place in the Lecture Theatre, Erdiston Teachers’ Training College, Pine, St. Michael, at 9:00 a.m.
Minister of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation, Ronald Jones, will deliver the feature address, while Dr. Sherry Rose, Consultant, University of New Brunswick, Canada, will present on the STEP framework and planning for enhancing school effectiveness.
Coordinated under the Education Sector Enhancement Project II, the STEP Initiative aims to institute the framework for teacher and school effectiveness through the development and implementation of STEPs for primary schools, and the provision of specific training to facilitate their implementation, monitoring and evaluation.
To support the implementation of STEPs, the Ministry has facilitated the enhancement of capacity at the Erdiston Teachers’ Training College to make available continuous professional development programmes for teachers and school principals, aimed at improving school leadership and classroom teaching practices.
It is expected that this will result in the overall improvement in student performance, especially in literacy, numeracy and science.
