World Health Day 2016GRENADA:  ST. GEORGE’S, GRENADA, APRIL 7, 2015, GOVERNMENT INFORMATION SERVICE (GIS): – As Grenada observes Health Week 2016, a Health Parade, organized by the Community Nursing Division of the Ministry of Health, will highlight the week of activities. The parade takes place on Friday 8th April commencing at 12:30 pm at Victoria Park, Grenville and ending at Progress Park with a mini Symposium.
Health Week is organised to coincide with World Health Day, April 7. This year the focus is diabetes. Grenada is working with the theme, “Strengthening Prevention and Living healthy with Diabetes”. The goal of World Health Day 2016 aims at scaling up prevention, strengthening care, and enhancing surveillance. The main goals of the campaign are to:
1. Increase awareness about the rise in diabetes, and its staggering burden and consequences.

2. Trigger a set of specific, effective and affordable actions to tackle diabetes. These will include steps to prevent diabetes and to diagnose, treat and care for people with diabetes.
In keeping with the goals, Grenada has organised a series of activities to tackle the problem and to assist people living with diabetes to manage the condition so that they may enjoy better health and longer life.
The World Health Organisation reports that globally an estimated 422 million adults were living with diabetes in 2014 compared to 108 million in 1980. Additionally Diabetes caused 1.5 million deaths in 2012.
