T’was a good week in marijuana eradication

St. Kitts and Nevis Press Releases

ST. KITTS: Basseterre, St. Kitts, April 29, 2016 (RSCNPF):  Marijuana eradication efforts by the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force and its Law Enforcement Partners scored big this week with the uprooting and seizure of over fifteen hundred plants and seedlings.

On Saturday (April 23), officers in Division “B” while on a marijuana eradication patrol uncovered four hundred and fifty (450) marijuana plants under cultivation and one hundred and fifty (150) seedlings in nursery. The early morning search conducted in hills within the Division’s area of responsibility resulted in the discovery of the plants ranging in height from one(1) to six (6) feet.
A joint operation on Wednesday (April 27) by the Special Services Unit and the Anti-Drug Unit uprooted six hundred and fifty-four (654) plants in the Conaree area.
On Thursday (April 28) the SSU and the Anti-Drug Unit found and uprooted an additional thirty nine (39) plants in Newtown,  while officers in Nevis uprooted and seized two hundred and fifty-five (255) plants ranging in height from two(2) to seven (7) feet from a lot in the Gingerland area.
The total seizure of plants and seedlings this week was one thousand five hundred and forty eight(1548).
“We have seized over 24,000 plants and seedlings so far this year in our anti-drug efforts with regards to marijuana,” said Head of the Anti-Drug Unit Inspector Travis Rogers.  He added, “it is a continuous battle, and we appreciate the assistance of each of our  police stations and districts, we appreciate the St. Kitts Nevis Defence Force, the Customs Service and all who assist in this fight.”
Head of Operations, Assistant Commissioner Terrance James said, “this effort is sometimes like a game of cat and mouse,  as we find and eradicate, the growers find more secluded areas, use better means of camouflage and other techniques.  He added, “our commitment is there, and that yielded the results the Inspector spoke of.”
