NCPP makes an impact at its Port of Spain public outreach.
The National Crime Prevention Programme (NCPP) Port of Spain public outreach engagement attracted high public support. The outreach was held on Tuesday September 18th, 2018 at the Port of Spain City Hall.
A wide cross section of residents from the City of Port of Spain and environs participated in the interactive and animated discussions which addressed relevant and diverse citizens’ concerns. Suggestions, concerns and solutions emanating from this forum will assist the Community Crime Prevention Councils’ (CCPCs) efforts at crafting community oriented action plans.
Addressing the gathering, Minister of National Security, the Honourable Stuart Young noted, that the Ministry of National Security is serious about reducing crime and improving the safety and security of citizens and country. Minister Young also added that one of the Ministry’s anti-crime measures is to focus on crime prevention. He highlighted that the National Crime Prevention Programme is one of the vehicles by which the country can achieve this mandate. He also believes working directly with communities and pooling resources will yield positive results in creating safer spaces for the people of this twin island republic.
His Worship the Mayor of Port of Spain, Alderman Joel Martinez highly endorsed the National Crime Prevention Programme. During his welcome to the burgesses of the City of Port of Spain he called on all attendees to get on board with the NCPP. The core principles of the NCPP, includes collaboration, resource sharing, and volunteerism which will be embraced by the Community Crime Prevention Councils (CCPC) which are currently being established in Chaguanas, Diego Martin and Tobago.
The CCPCs represent the first level of engagement with the NCPP where issues may be resolved utilizing resources available at the Municipal level. This body is comprised of Governmental offices, Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs), Residents, Community-Based Organisations (CBOs), Faith-Based Organisations (FBOs), Civil Society, Academia and Corporate citizens.
