Italy is interested in working with Barbados in the fashion industry.
This was disclosed recently by Italy’s special envoy to the Caribbean, Paolo Serpi, during a visit to Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Senator Dr. Esther Byer Suckoo, at her office in the Warrens Office Complex.
Mr. Serpi also disclosed that at present over 1000 businesses in Italy are working successfully in the fashion industry.
Dr. Byer Suckoo said that in exploring this area it would also involve the Ministry of Labour, and it would be “quite exciting” to tap into this industry.
Mr. Serpi also expressed interest in collaborating in other areas, namely climate change, renewable energy and tackling organised crime.

The special envoy also met with the Ministers of Industry, International Business and Small Business Development, and Environment and Drainage, and the Permanent Secretary of the Energy Division.
Barbados and Italy established diplomatic relations on August 23, 1977.
The day’s activities will get under way with an opening address by Minister of Science, Energy and Technology, Dr. the Hon. Andrew Wheatley, and will include demonstrations from representatives of technology companies, presentations and panel discussions.
Head of the Cyber Incident Response Team (CIRT) in the Ministry, Dr. Moniphia Hewling, said that attendees will be able to view hacking simulations and receive information on how to protect themselves and secure their devices while using the Internet.
She said the event is open to anyone “who uses the Internet, people who bank online, who use social media, who use their phones to access the Internet”.
Among the participating entities are Microsoft, Fortinet and Carbon Black.
The day is part of activities being undertaken by CIRT in observation of global Cyber Security Awareness Month in October.
